Sunday night, Andy Dawn Scott, and myself, all play test some of the formulas for saturdays big game. most of these formulas we were able to fix and or confirm that they were usable.
I came to understand that we are trying to make every stat relivant to combat, and while i was making my npc, for i was ts that night ^.^, I was taking all into consideration, execpt one...... Intellegence. Seeing as though for the session we went with Dex+1 for evasion, it worked really well.
it wasn't til i was at work when i got struck by lightning, and yes it hurt..... a little. I immediatly called up andy to explain the idea i had ( he can post his response).
Instead of having INT in the combat modifiers, make your INT lvl your Abilities lvl cap. if you have two intellegence you can only go to lvl two on your abilities. that way INT still has some combat relivance.
This isn't set in stone and its always up for debate, thus the reasoning for putting it on the board. So.... let me know what it is your thinking about this.

Personally, I thought it was a great idea. It will certainly help bring importance to a character's Intelligence. It seems like it will help keep characters balanced without really forcing it on players.

That is a very interesting idea... I can't forsee any problems persay as much as players finding that rule limiting... of course that begs the question on whether ability levels could go up so even if we start with an INT of two if it goes up could we work towards mastery of a given ability? Also it might cause dispute later on once we start adding other races too.... might make humans feel kinda useless... in fact i can think of a person mabe two off the top of my head that would renounce Kalarsys entirely if we were to place that as a rule.... not that he really matters but the battle that would ensue would not be fun...

I also think it's a great idea (considering that we are given a max of five abilities). However, that means that players can master their abilities at INT 6. And while this works for our humans, it would be very easy for races such as the Eidolons/Grottars to become masters of their abilities very early in the game. Of course, that would also mean that the Druids would be severely flawed if they were to take up that sort of opportunity. Unless we're doing a completely different system for them. O.o
But yes, anyway. I vote yesh!

I would hope that we would be able to master our equipment even if we get a preset cause the more we play the harder the enemys and if we cant master it wont we get owned?

Im not saying that by reaching six intellegence you instantly master your abillities. You would still have to earn the experience required to buying your abillity points to get to that mastery. so not only do you face the challenge of mastering your abillities, you also have to take the time to increase your intellegence so that you can proceed to your mastery.
Eidolons really don't have alot in there favor execpt magic. Which is one of the reasons why I have no hard feeling about giving them an intellectual advantage ( which they've always had to begin with). its just now being put to a higher use; plus with no stat boasting abillities and or weapon prof for the eidolons theres not much to unbalance with a higher intellegence given abillity mastery. I guess a way of explaining it would be " Eidolons have a higher understanding of there bodies and of the world around them so that they can easily adapt to new concepts and tactics."
Characters of lesser intellegence are given that lvl cap to keep from munchicnizing (sp?). Witigo's being of 3 body 1mind and 2 skill, obviously shows that they are to grow as a Tank and or meat shield. Giving characters the abillity to spend numerous amounts of points ( whether earn or otherwise) without restriction would lead to a character being to powerful to quickly.
CoF, your saying that with this specified restriction a character can master to quickly, I hope Im correct thats what you ment to say. However, we are currently running a game without restriction. What is stoping a playing from pouring all the points into there weapon prof at the beginning and once the game starts there three point away from level 6.
That is the reality we are running with in the game so far. With this restriction in place players would have to create carefully and use some tactics with character growth.
Perilaxis, I say on to you that if those to players you mentioned earilier would renounce the game for such a stipulation then I say that they are indeed muchicnizers (sp?) and are not the kind of people we want playing this game. This game is to be as fun as it is challenging, hoping for invincibility from the beginning, let alone obtaining it is NOT a quallity of the game that should go unchecked let alone praised.
I suggest these two individuals learn and respect the rules of the game ASAP.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Munchkin_(role-playing_games)en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Powergameren.wikipedia.org/wiki/Min/maxThis sort of rule is, essentially, a "Min/Max Killer". So naturally, those that do min/max are going to hate it. That's pretty much the point. It'll force them to actually make real characters and engage in role-playing, rather than just filling out a character sheet and being invincible. Let's not forget that it's up to the Tale Spinner what rule to use. If they want to play without this rule on their own time, that's fine, but I doubt any of us who actively post on the board here are going to be without it.

"Im not saying that by reaching six intellegence you instantly master your abillities. You would still have to earn the experience required to buying your abillity points to get to that mastery."
Yeah I understand that much, that nobody can or should be able to be a master in a given ability upon character creation. It just -seemed- like having a high INT in the beginning would suggest that they can max their abilities, even if they don't.
"CoF, your saying that with this specified restriction a character can master to quickly"
Well if they're a Druid, yeah. And the abilities they would master would affect role-playing more than it would combat, of course. Like Navigation and Swimming and things of that sort. And I guess in that sense, then the Eidolons having high INT in the beginning means diddly squat for their abilities in general. I was just gonna say that for races that would use combat modifiers like the Human race, that abilities would remain at Level 3 so long as the INT is three and over (and maybe being closer to Level 4 depending on said INT), but nothing higher than that, forcing the players to buy the experience necessary to master it.
And as much as I like house rules (house rules make games like Yu-Gi-Oh! a lot more easier XD), Lurid, I think certain rules such as this one should stick so that you don't have Munchkins running around ruining all the fun. After all, much like DC said, this is a Role-Playing Game, not a "Everybody Wins Game".
Therefore, despite whatever we do to the rule, I'm just saying that it's a good idea and if it works the way it is now, great! And though we aren't working on the other races in depth like we are with Humans, it's still something to keep in mind when we do get around to the other races. It does sound like it should work as-is. Too much Devil's Advocate on my part, maybe.

So just to be ABSOLUTLY clear about this... your lvl of INT is the lvl cap on abilities and to raise an ability beyond said cap you must first raise your INT.... that sounds about right.... just one question then how will leveling abilities work then will we have one general experience pool for everything or seperate pools for each thing? that was never made clear to me...

So far we've been sticking with one general pool of experience. Previous versions of Kalarsys had an option to do specific experience, but I was thinking of ditching that.

Oh sorry wasn't clear... are we going to have a pool for the STATS and then a pool for abilities or just a basic pool? personally I think the former would be better. If we only had one pool then progressing characters would be rather slow.
