An Idea I Have

Okay so I'm wandering the vast expanse of the internet and I randomly find myself looking at what amounts to being a digital Monster Manual.... this crazy thing is awesome, mini search engine for in document finds, tabs that let you see what you've already looked up, Filters to help narrow your search results, all for about 9200 KB total and at about this moment (having seen the obselete text document they had been using) a thought occured to me...... Lengthy text files SUCK!!! So do long heavy books and other such tree killers...... SO why not make and/or modify a digital codex of the kalarsys books? The one I found I should note was made (if I'm to believe the guy that did this) using C++, And scince most of us bring our computers with us to the sessions anyway it only makes sense, I even think we could put the Dice roller and NPC generator in it so we could have a "Master File" with everything you need to begin playing in one download. At the word (if this is something we want to try) I can contact the person who programed this thing originally and see if he/she would be kind enough to either: A: send me a copy of the code needed, or B: have us send him documents to put in the program. Whatcha think?

This may not be a bad idea...in theory. However, there are some significant problems that crop up.

A: Would he be willing to give us the code for free? If so, would we even WANT to use it? Are there better solutions out there freely available? If we got the code from this guy and figured out how to use it, (or even if we set up a Media Wiki), we don't have anywhere that'll host anything that sophisticated. I have my free website account I'm using right now, but it isn't likely to run the kind of scripts that guy has made. At this point, I seriously doubt it would be worth the money to invest in a better service. There won't be enough eyeballs on it to justify the cost.

B: I'm not handing over all of our hard work to some guy I don't know so he can cram it through a script I've never seen to create something he can lay claim to with minimal effort.

Upon further reading, it sound like you were looking at a compiled HTML file, usually used for help documents and such. If that's the case, then it probably wouldn't be to difficult to create one for ourselves without needing that specific person's help. This would probably be a decent solution if this is the kind of thing people around here want. Chances are if I get bored I'll make a complied HTML e-book of the Kalarsys core book just to see how everyone likes it.

First, can we get a link to that guy's website? I'd like to see for myself what he's doing.

Well it's actually on my computer so I can show you what it is it was originally in a zip file I just extracted it so I have an actual copy. The program is self contained much like the NPCgen all the files needed were with the program upon download and extraction. So it can still go up on the free website.

A website with a chat I frequent to have lengthy and intelligent theorhetical conversations up to and inculding interstellar, interdimentional, and time travels, advanced genetic mechanics, advanced robotics, et cetera, et cetera.
Private message through a website which also lists his email, and IM stuffs.

Well to be honest it is a fiction site geared to more adult themes based in an alternate war ravaged earth which has certain elements of various video games, movies, and TV shows centered around master/slave relationships between humans and their genetically altered, superpowered girls and the problems they encounter in a dangerous and often times deadly world.

Yes yes you can and for the record I prefer to be the one with the whip (I am, however, not completely against the idea of being whipped if the crop is in the hands of a skilled and trusted individual, and as long as I get my whip back). To be honest even if I posted I link to it (assuming I could figure out how) you would have to join the yahoogroup to see anything other than the lattest blog updates by some of the more...... influential members. I can however (prolly) send the zip file to you guys via email so you can look at it and see what I mean at least. At the risk of being mocked and taunted relentlessly (Druken, Lurid I'm looking at you when I type this) the entire site is.... a darker and more mature version of pokemon in some ways. Much of what is there are twisted and perveted mockeries of pokemon, and various other anime titles and video games...... at the very least the people on the site are smart and fun to chat with if mostly perverts......

(Does anyone know what I was talking about with the compiled HTML stuff? Just search your computer for *.chm files and you're likely to find at least one.)
