Okay, currently up at school I am involved in a 3rd edition D&D campaign. My character is a cleric named Graham (yes, after the King from King's Quest V who "gave the wand a good shake, but it only fizzles and dies."). This party needed another spellcaster (and, dammit, if I'm running a spellcaster, I'm never going to worry about keeping my spellbook safe again.) My god is a minor one by the name of Delleb, who is of the knowledge and good domains. We are currently eighth level.
So far, I've been able to some freakin' amazing stuff. I completely covered a pool of acid with sharks threatening to devour my partymates. I got them a raise from the king using my AWESOME +13 TO DIPLOMACY!!!! And I finished of a foul creature from the underdark using a beam of holy sunlight that vaporized it. But my character is also the author of biographies, in fact his work is his form of prayer. He does tireless research on anything that he can find, such as the holy symbols of the cancer mages we are currently vanquishing. He is a talk first, fight later kind of guy.
However, if anyone who thinks this character feels much like a villian of mine that they have come across before... well, I don't know yet...
The only problem I have felt has been the lack of roleplaying. In reality, I feel that my fellow players have not developed so deep as to say characters, but maybe more of, to borrow a wrestling term, gimmicks. We have at our disposal, a half-earth elemental (meaning he's partly made of rock, along with having armor MADE OF ROCK!) who bull rushes everything into walls, making tiny level 1 demoins go SQUISH! We have a rouge/druid (I don't know how this works) that just seems to enjot talking to vermin and changing into birds and cats. One guy running two characters (half brothers), the first a mage that throws lightning bolts at everything, even calling himself the "Lightning Count" and the second a scout that seems to just complement the mage. The others are run by the DM, a half-orc that sounds Jamacian, and an albear (sp?) that just eats the shit we kill, and other stuff we haven't gotten a chance to. There has been no roleplay, and the story has been there was an explosion after an attack on the city by some evil mages. There's a cave. Name dropped a couple of names while we interrogated monsters we've captured.
So, um, how do you suppose I fix this? We've had three sessions of dungeon crawl, squish, squish, bull rushing rock makes something so squish, cat/bird transformation, squish, zap, we-be-jammin', squish.
